Hour of Power 2009

This was our second Ted Mullin "Leave it in the Pool" Hour of Power Relay for Cancer Research. We had a lot of fun and this was by far our best day of the year! I am already looking forward to next year.

Clarkson Meet

Our meet with Clarkson on November 7th was cancelled due to uncontrollable circumstances. We had practice instead! And believe it or not the kids were actually happy to be having practice.

Oneonta Meet and Halloween Practice

Since we had a meet on Halloween, we held our annual Halloween practice on Friday. The pumpkin carving contest was a close call and there were plenty of creative creations. I hoped that they did not eat too much candy since we had Oneonta the next day.
Oneonta came into our pool and swam very well, I think we were a little flat, but we managed wins on both sides. It was basically our 3rd meet in about a week. I am glad we do not have any other weeks like that!

RIT meet

Our next meet was on Wednesday October 28th against RIT. We had some good swims but we were definitely hurting a bit from the AM. The women were victorious as the men were defeated.

Leaf Raking

On Sunday October 27th we participated in Leaf Raking (community service helping out the elderly). We had a few groups out there working hard. We also happened to help out at the house of former Women's swim coach Grace (Mowatt) which was a lot of fun. She shared some good stories! Thanks to everyone for helping out it is well appreciated.

LeMoyne Meet

Our first meet of the year was against LeMoyne on October 24th. It turned out to be a great meet on both sides. The Men's meet cam down to the last relay, which we ended up winning by .07 seconds to win the meet by 1 point! The Women also won to get our year started off on a good note.

5K fundraiser walk for the United Way

On Saturday October 17th a large portion of our team participated in a fundraiser, which was a 5K walk for the United Way. It was tough but I managed to finish. It was a beautiful Fall day to take a walk around campus and it was for a good cause. Shame on Brandon for winning a basket full of candy and not sharing any with his coach! He will likely pay for it later.

Alumni

We had our alumni meet on October 10th, it is always good to see the slightly older people fit into their suits and throw down some impressive swims. I certainly enjoyed seeing old teammate Rob Hathaway hold his own against the kids. Most notable swim was what must be a new American Record in the 50 breast at 10.63 (well, there may have been some timing system manipulation there....who knows!) Anyway it was a good time on both ends of the event. It was also a good time to learn that I needed a new starter. Good to see everyone and we look forward to next year!
